I
took this image
at Canyonlands
National Park
in Utah on a miserably
hot summer afternoon,
with the sun beating
down on the trees
so intensely that
the sap became
liquid and formed
sticky puddles
on the ground
below the limbs.
The flare in the
reflection is
the sun, and if
you look below
the sun you will
see my silhouette,
with my hands
on my hips. |

| As
far back as I can
remember, I have
had a fascination
with the visual arts.
I recall spending
countless hours of
my childhood, on
snowy winter days,
thumbing through
publications such
as Communication
Arts, Print Magazine,
and fine art and
photography books.
There was something
immensely gratifying
about the images
and designs that
I saw, and it opened
a world to me that
intrigued me.

This
interest continued
into my adulthood,
spending my 20's
in fine art, graphic
design, and multimedia
degree programs in
college. After finishing
school and working
for several years
in multimedia, I
realized my world
had become 90% technical
and only 10% creative.
I had, through the
natural course of
things, steered away
from what is most
fulfilling to me,
and I was yearning
for a creative outlet.
I found that outlet
in photography. It
is the perfect marriage
of my accumulated
design, art, and
composition experience
and my passion for
the natural world
and the untouched
wilderness of the
American West.
The compositions
of the natural world
that I capture range
from low-light, and
night landscapes
and skyscapes, to
the minute and often-overlooked
details of nature.
Thank you for taking
the time to view
my art. My hope is
that you capture
a little bit of the
sense of awe that
I feel while taking
the photos.
